Eddie Murphy and his League of Extraordinary Women

The role of a casting director in a movie is pretty easy daunting sometimes; they are responsible for aligning the right actors with the right characters. If all goes to plan you get Al Pacino playing the role of Tony Montana in Scarface, if all fails you get the whole cast of Big Momma’s House 3. The biggest mistake made in casting however is opting for beauty over talent, countless times in Transformers we see the love interest casted for our eyes and not our ears; its annoying. Eddie Murphy movies however, despite not having the most demanding of skills needed to play a main female role, have at least had a an element of both acting skills and extraordinary beauty.

Ok so I lied when I said extraordinary (I just needed a cool title) but compared to a host of actors who’ve hit our screen over the last 20 years, Eddie has a pretty nice group of women star in his movies, maybe the most. If Will Smith holds the torch for having the most thorough group of good looking women on TV (a feat we feel can NEVER be topped and a post we will work on in months to come) and David Banner tops the chart for Music Video female appreciation then Eddie Murphy takes the spot for movies. Judged on how they looked in the movie and not necessarily on a daily basis, I picked my top ten. Lets skim through the top 10 shall we?…

PS: Beyonce was not picked for this list in her role in Dreamgirls because Eddie Murphy was a supporting role in this movie, so before the stans get onto me, she would’ve been top 2 if Eddie Murphy was the main star

PSS: Most videos are fine but some look like they were filmed with a damn camera phone, the cons and cons of Youtube ay?

10. JADA PINKETT-SMITH (Carla in Nutty Professor)

Jada is fire; Will knows it, we know it. On any given Monday she’d be closer to the top of the list but the hairstyle in the movie was killing us; I’m all for different hairstyles but experiments are like a brother’s worst nightmare at times. But alas we gave ode to India Arie and concentrated on the face which rarely disappoints.

9. VICTORIA ROWELL (Kate in The Distinguised Gentleman)

Originally a toss up between her and Thandie Newton in Nortbit to make the list, Victoria Rowell wins on better character (and movie) terms. She was feisty, intelligent, genuine and ultimately doesn’t look like she eats two slices of celery for dinner (sorry Thandie, but eat a wing or something).

8. CARMEN EJOGO (Veronica in Metro)

Maybe it’s because of those lips she’s a Londoner…..and we love those kinda lips London town.

From 1:20-1:30

7. JANET JACKSON (Denise in Nutty Professor 2)

She’s Janet Jackson

6. SHARI HEADLY (Lisa in Coming to America)

I think every dude wanted their own Lisa McDowell. Shari Headly’s character was the last decent role she ever played and was the final non-comedic piece to a genius puzzle. She was just the right level of cuteness to have a man singing ‘To Be Loved”

5. ROBIN GIVENS (Jacqueline in Boomerang)

Robin went up to new levels after I saw this movie; to do a man like she did Marcus continuously, with a nice frame and face to boot you have to be something special. She spawned an evolution of Boss Ladies and created the first ever Heskey in Marcus

4. MARSHA THOMASON (Elizabeth in Haunted Mansion)

5ft 10, football fan, scouser and fine, Marsha Thomason made a brother tilt his head for the newcomer. Eddie likes his UK women don’t he? we have no problem with that.

3. LELA ROCHON (Christie in Boomerang)

Lela Rochon was highly underrated in her element. Also known for playing Sunshine in Harlem Nights Lela was to sexy what Rice is to stew.

2. GABRIELLE UNION (No.3 in Meet Dave)

Admittedly none of us have seen Meet Dave, so this may be a tad biased but this is my house post! Gabby is the ish

1. HALLE BERRY (Angela in Boomerang)

There’s gonna be a time where we get tired of Halle Berry topping most lists, until then she will reign above all, clap for ‘em.

Honourable Mentions: Jasmine Guy in Harlem Nights, Thandie Newton in Norbit, Regina King in Daddy Day Care, Kristen Wilson in Dr Doolittle

I’m gone like Fabregas
